Description

The leek's cylindrical, white, edible root gradually becomes a stalk with a fan of dark green, flat leaves. Offering an earthy, mild onion flavor, the texture of a leek is crunchy when raw and silky when cooked. Since leeks are grown in sandy soil, it is best to soak them in water before rinsing and cooking.

Fruitful Hill Farm

Fruitful Hill Farm

Fruitful Hill Farm, located in Bastrop County, was founded in 2002 as the family farm of Dale and his wife Amy and their six children. The farm began with the simple intention of being a place for the children to learn how to farm.

At first, the farm-raised cows, then, pastured laying hens along with meat goats. A few years later, the farm expanded into vegetables. Fruitful Hill Farm grows about 40 different types of vegetables, using organic practices.
