Description
Juicy ripe mangoes have a unique, sweet-sour tropical flavor that could be described as melon-like with citrus notes. When ripe, the flesh is bright orange-yellow, with a soft, slippery texture similar to a ripe peach.
Allow unripe mangoes to ripen on your kitchen counter. Check for ripeness by smelling the steam, as the mango aroma intensifies when ready.
Semi-ripe mangoes are also enjoyable, with a satisfying crunchy texture and pleasant tartness that's great for snacking. Firm, unripe green mangoes can also be prepared in Thai or Vietnamese fashion, similar to papaya salad with herbs and a bright seasoned fish sauce dressing.
Pro Tip: Having difficulty with peeling and slicing mangoes? Try this trick! Without peeling, slice the mango into thirds lengthwise avoiding the pit. Slice of the mango from the pit. For the sides of the mango, score the flesh with a cross hatch being careful to not cut through the peel. Invert the peel, pushing it inward to "pop" the sliced mango flesh upward. Enjoy right from the mango peel or use a spoon or knife to scoop the cubes into a bowl.

G & S Groves
G & S Groves, located in McAllen, Texas, was founded by George and Elizabeth Strohmeyer. The farm began with a dream of planting a citrus grove. The grove was lost due to freeze and drought in the 1930s. In 1994, David, son of George and Elizabeth, decided to make his parents dream a reality by replanting the grove. By 2006, David and his wife Beverly took over the complete operations of G & S Groves. G & S Grove grows certified organic Texas citrus; such as Rio Red Grapefruit, navel oranges, lemons, and limes. |
