This starter bundle for a juicy pork bratwurst dinner starts with Farmhouse Kitchen's pasture-raised pork sausage seasoned with a house blend of spices and herbs. The brats are classically paired with sautéed peppers & onions, conveniently chopped and ready to cook, alongside locally made kraut from Austin's own Casper Fermentables. Add your own flare with your favorite bread and condiments, and enjoy with an Oktoberfest beer or German-style lager. Serves 4.

  • 1 lb avg Pasture-raised Pork Bratwurst Sausages, frozen
  • 16 oz Casper Fermentables Turmeric Kraut
  • 10 oz Farmhouse Kitchen Sliced Peppers & Onions
You will need:
  • Oil of choice
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Beer (optional)
Hands on Time: 10 minutes; Total Time: 20 minutes

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1 
Heat a large grill pan or skillet over medium-high. Add oil to coat the bottom of the pan or grill ridges. When the oil just begins to shimmer, add the bratwurst. Cook for 5-6 minutes, rotating once or twice for evening browning, then add 1/2 cup of water. Cover and reduce heat to medium-low, and cook until internal temperature reaches (160°F), about 10 minutes. Transfer to a clean plate.
Alternatively, bring 1-2 cups of beer to a boil, then submerge the sausages. Reduce heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes until cooked through (160°F). Drain off the beer, then fry the sausages in oil to crisp and brown. Transfer to a clean plate.

STEP 2  Drain the pan of liquid and return the pan over the heat. Add more oil to coat the pan. Add the sliced peppers & onions, and season with salt and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes or until crisp tender, with caramelized edges.
STEP 3  Serve the bratwurst and sautéed peppers & onions with kraut. Enjoy in a hot dog bun with your favorite condiments such as mustard, barbecue sauce, or ketchup.
