With Texas Rio Star Grapefruit, FHK Spiced Pecans, and Classic All-Butter Puff Pastry, this kit provides everything you'll need to bake a batch of decadent, pecan-studded baklava that's sure to impress.

1 count Classic Puff Pastry Dough - Dufour
8 oz Mexican Glazed Pecans - Farmhouse Kitchen
2 count Organic Rio Star Grapefruit - South Tex Organics

You'll Need:

White Granulated Sugar
Youngblood Honey (recommended, but optional)

Puff Pastry - USDA Grade AA Butter [cream, natural flavorings], Unbleached Unbromated Flour, Water, Salt, Lemon Juice

Mexican Glazed Pecans - Pecans, Brown Sugar, Chipotle Powder, Cinnamon, Kosher Salt, Olive Oil

Bundle Contains: Dairy, Gluten, Tree Nuts (pecan)
Recipe
Preheat oven to 375°F

STEP 1 Defrost puff pastry for 1-2 hours in the refrigerator. Remove and unfold the pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface. Cut into 4 equal sections. Roll each section out 1-2 inches in each direction and trim the edges if desired. Place back into the freezer on a sheet tray or plate.
STEP 2 Cut the grapefruit in half and juice half or all (reserve at least 1/4 cup). Create the syrup. Set a pan on low heat and add 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/4 cup of water, 1/2 cup of grapefruit juice, and 1 tsp honey (optional). Stir lightly and heat until the sugar has melted. Once you can place a drop of syrup on a plate and the drop stays exactly in place, turn off the heat.
STEP 3 Coarsely chop the pecans or use a food processor until they resemble rocky gravel. Add to a bowl and slowly pour just enough syrup to combine the nuts. If the syrup is too thick, return it to low heat to liquify to the right consistency.
STEP 4 Place two sheets of frozen puff pastry on a large sheet tray. Spread the syrup pecans on both sheets almost to the edges. It doesn't have to be perfectly even or filled in. Place the other two frozen sheets of puff pastry on top and brush the remaining syrup on top of each sheet. If the pastry has softened by now, stick it back in the freezer until cold and firm.
STEP 5 Bake on the middle rack of the oven for about 15 minutes until the top crust is golden brown. Set out on the counter to cool. Use a sharp knife and cut diagonally to make diamond shapes. It's best to place the tip of your knife on the board and cut it straight down rather than try and slice through the pastry.
Your baklava can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge or on the counter for up to 1 week, but best served the same day or within a couple of days.
Serve room temperature, chilled, or warmed up!
