Larry Butler & Carol Ann Sayle began their "back-to-the-farm movement" in 1981 when they acquired a Milam county farm outside of Gause. They began farming part-time since they were busy with full-time jobs and raising three children. By 1991, they decided to follow their dream and began farming full time.
In 1992, they bought five acres and a historic old farmhouse in East Austin, which became Boggy Creek Farm. Surrounded by housing subdivisions, schools, and commercial enterprises, which had been built on land once part of the farm, Larry and Carol Ann’s Austin farm became one of the few truly urban farms in the nation.
